Figured I'd start this thread as it's always cool to see what other people are currently checking out. So, tell everyone else what they should be playing. If you've got something relatively obscure that you think may have passed other people by, post it here and everyone else will (theoretically) give it a shot. I'll kick it off: I'm putting a game called GUWANGE through the paces. For those who wanna see what it's about, click here and scroll down a bit. You'll see it. If you're interested, you didn't hear this from me or anything, but the ROM is relatively easy to find for M.A.M.E. I shelled out and got the PCB, but I'm crazy like that, and it'd be nuts to ask other people to do the same.

Ah. I've already played that, actually. It's a nifty shooter, alright.
My turn? Well....
I guess I'll mention another arcade game, namely Rygar. It's a fairly hard game, and not completely without bugs, but for some reason it worked itself up to the top spot on my favorite arcade game list.
And hey, it's fun running around whacking enemies with what looks to be a mix between a shield and a yo-yo. ^_^

Rygar is awesome, but I never could beat it. But it's one of those games that have an intangible magical quality about it. That shooter looks awesome.

For the record, the PS2 game was absolutely incredible.
I'm a fan of those "intangible" qualities some games seem to possess. It always seems like the world they're set in has a lot more to it than you're actually seeing. Rygar was definitely one, I'd say the arcade version of Karnov has that going for it, too. Everything is just too weird to be an accident.
As for Guwange, it's really worth tracking down, though if you read that review thing on 1UP, I mentioned ESP Ra. De.
There's another one worth looking up.

Deus, I was referring to the arcade version, actually.
I've got E.S.P. Ra De too, as well as the (Do)DonPachi games. I also have the PS2 Rygar game, and while I liked it quite a lot, I thought it could stand being more of a frantic fighting/action game. Too much running around and not enough whacking things with your diskarmor. Heaven knows I liked the way you could "level up" your character and restart the game with your built character once you finished it, though.
Two other gems (on MAME): Rastan Saga and Black Tiger.
Oh, and a question: Is anyone here familiar with the Commodore 64 and the Amiga?

Huh. I thought I mentioned the arcade version as applies to the qualities mentioned in the second paragraph of my post, and then went on to mention the PS2 game after that, but it didnt' come out like that. Maybe I'm dyslexic and didn't know it? Hmm. I'll have to check out Rastan Saga and Black Tiger. Fable is actually eating up a lot of my time right now. Somehow my outdoorsy archer type character wound up looking like a D&D Marylin Manson, and I'm still trying to figure out how. I've taken to betting with the local townsfolk that I can kill X number of monsters naked, so you'd figure a guy who runs around in the sun with no clothes on so much would actually get a tan, but nope.

I was reading your post title, and thought you were asking me. Although, in hindsight, that question might be directed at Per. Sorry about the misunderstanding, which might just as well have been my fault. >_< Fable? I think that's a PC game, am I correct? While I am no fan of Marilyn Manson, I might check that game out. About Rastan Saga and Black Tiger; they're both platform games. In Rastan Saga, you control a barbarian a la Conan, and you walk around on stages slashing various monsters to death. Each of the six stages are split into three parts; an outside stage, a castle/cave stage and a boss fight. The graphics on this game is pretty good, and the stages themselves are rather large and scenic. Also, the bosses are pretty cool, especially the fifth one. (There's also a trick that makes the third and fourth boss much easier to deal with.) Rastan doesn't operate its stages on a set time limit, but if you goof around too long in one spot, you'll be assaulted by a group of bats coming in from all directions. You also have an energy bar, so no instant deaths (except if you fall into lava pits and the likes.) There are also extra weapons on various places throughout the stages, but they run out after a set time. Black Tiger is also a platform game, though the stages are much more complex. Basically, you can choose whether you want to go straight for the stage boss or whether you want to thoroughly explore the entire stage itself for bonuses and such. You pick up extra money (zenny, the Capcom game currency) that you can use to buy weapon upgrades (these are permanent for the rest of the game) and armor upgrades (which works like an energy bar of sorts), plus treasure chest keys and poison antidotes. Rastan Saga is made by Taito and Black Tiger is made by Capcom. Both are, like Rygar and Ghosts 'n Goblins (Maximo), excellent remake material. Edit: Never mind. I found out that Fable is an Xbox game.

I dislike Marylin Manson myself, but, well, shit, how would you describe what my guy looks like? Someone said he looks like a skinny Wolverine with a Cirque de Solei tatto, which I would also agree with. The thing with Fable is that it's not the game it was made out to be. They marketed it like it was going to be the next Morrowind, but it's nothing like Morrowind whatsoever. It's much more of a less-focused Zelda game where you can sleep with your wife and get drunk. Still cool, but really not what I was expecting.

Modern games that impressed the hell out of me: Gradius V, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, R Type Final And a game that is just a hell of a lot of fun when you play it together with someone (up to three others, actually): Champions of Norrath. Oh, and I also just got my second Midway Arcade Treasure pack, which contain, amongst others.... Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 Timber Gauntlet 2 Xybots Pit fighter ;D Hard Drivin' Wizard of Wor And lastly, the awesomely named: Kozmik Krooz'r. (I'm dead serious.)

Yep. And I'll be damned if it didn't manage to be more impressive than Prime 1. I'm also professing my weakness for the Japanese RPG game Tales of Symphonia, which was released at around the same time. Nothing quite like an RPG that puts on a little more action-oriented twist for the battles you spend around 50-60% of your time doing in games like this. What's better; you can have your friends control the three other characters for you instead of letting the automatic system take care of that.

I haven't liked a Need For Speed game since Hot Pursuit on Playstation. Then again, I'm more of an RPG guy, and I despise nearly every racing game known to man. Hot Pursuit was rad though.
