Is it really that embarassing? It is true after all... I know some awfully thick native speakers... I've been off-line for awhile since my computer gave up the ghost & I was really pleased to see forums when I came back. Did you ever have any luck finding Sweet Home the film?

Hey, good to hear from you again, Cori. Nope, haven't found the movie yet, but I've still got an eye open.

Holy crap, there's a Sweet Home movie I read the games piece in which you mentioned it not too long ago -- downloaded the rom but still haven't fired it up yet. Bloody hell, now I'm going to have to look for this thing too. Someone's got to have it on ebay... Oh, and get this -- did everyone know there were apparently two Power Rangers in Space episodes starring the TMNT??? Now those are on my list of things to track down too... I totally have to review them. Totally. --Wes

I've heard about the PW/TMNT crossover. It was a plug for the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation TV series, I think.

Yeah, apparently it takes place around the same time as Next Mutation since Venus is in it. Ahhhh jeez I've gotta get ahold of these eps.
Oh, and no luck finding Sweet Home/Suito Homu on ebay, or anywhere else thus far -- doesn't look like it was released on vhs or dvd. But if you want to get a feel for what it might have been like, there's plenty of stuff by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (who directed Suito Homu) that you could get...

Not only is there a movie (which I believe the game is based on, as Kurosawa Kiyoshi is listed in its credits), but there was also a making-of documentary produced for Japanese tv.
You're right it was never released on video/dvd. The only place I've ever seen it available was up for trade on a pretty dubious-looking site & that was a second- or third-generation copy taped from Chinese tv, with Chinese subtitles. I've never seen anyone claiming to have the documentary.
I've pretty much declared a copy of this movie with subtitles in some language I can read to be the Holy Grail of my personal dorkdom.

Well, consider me enlisted in the quest. I'll be keeping an eye out for it as well. From the reviews on imdb, though, I'm doubting that it's as wild and bloody awesome as the game would have you expect...
I want to see a Monster Party movie.

That's probably true... bless its heart, it would never be able to measure up...
Are you sure about a Monster Party movie? After all, if movies (usually) make for horrendous video games, then the reverse is at least equally true. After all, who can forget the sheer cinematic majesty of the Super Mario Brothers movie? Or Resident Evil, the film? Somehow terrible movies aren't as much fun when it's clear that money wasn't a limitation...
Now, a Monster Party animated series is another matter altogether...

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was awesome -- that's definitely something I'm planning on reviewing on SC, along with Van Damme's Street Fighter... I think Monster Party would be way better as a movie than as an animated series. But understand that by "better" I mean "really awful and hilarious", not "actually worth watching for any genuine merit it might possess". Resident Evil was crap, and not in the good way, but I think that was a result of them trying to make the movie appeal to a more mainstream crowd -- it's not like movies with similar stories haven't been done really well before (Romero's trilogy, etc.). I've heard really good bad things about House of the Dead, though, just haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

There's a pretty impressive release of Street Fighter out on DVD, I might buy it someday. SMB was supposed to be released last July, but it was cancelled

You mean in your neck of the woods, yes? Both SMB and Street Fighter are sitting in Best Buy for $5.99. Every time I go there I pass by them and say, "One day, I will buy YOU!!!!" but generally pick up something else. I prefer to buy the stuff I've never heard of, since if I don't there's a good chance I'll never hear of or think about it again. But SMB and Street Fighter will always remain in my thoughts, so I'm in no hurry to grab them.

I don't know why, but really awful movies that were clearly expensive & produced by alleged professionals just aren't as enjoyable to me as really awful movies that were clearly funded by the writer/director/editor/lead actor's bar mitzvah fund. Then again, any adaptation of Monster Party would probably have to be one of those low-budget masterpieces... you're right Wes, that would be something to see.
I'd still love to see it animated... I've always had a weak spot for cartoons. Maybe they could do both... ooh, and cast some action figures... I think I smell a franchise! Can you imagine what the breakfast cereal would be like?

Per: It's definitely out here, see? www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=BVD029244www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=42798&skuId=5170619&type=productAnd it's goin' nowhere 'cause nobody wants it (except me ). I pass this thing every time I walk into a place that sells dvds. Corinnette: I'd agree with that, depending on what kind of awful we're talking. A movie with high production values that fails in almost every way (except wackiness) is fascinating to me, somehow, because I keep wondering how the hell they managed to come up with something so bad (and yet so good). Whereas with a low budget movie, the really awful ones tend to be kind of dull and irritating -- you've got to have the awful ones that are also hilarious here too, but with a low budget film it only works if the creators of the movie are in on the joke and push it to its limits. With a Hollywood flick, it's gotta be an accident. And while Monster Party as a franchise might make for some interesting products -- I imagine the cereal would be covered with some kind of deep crimson powder that turned the milk bloody red -- I think I'd like it better if it were some weird movie that you only cross once in your childhood, but that leaves an impression on you. Examples for me would be some of the movies I saw on Nightmare Theatre as a kid: The Gate, House, and Dolls -- all of which I've tracked down on dvd in recent years. (Oddly enough, Matt at X-E has reviewed the first two of those, I think. I'm planning on reviewing Dolls myself, since it never got an official release -- my dvd comes to us courtesy of Hong Kong. And I could always review House II...)

I don't know what it is, but while 'Dagon' (truly horrific film version of Lovecraft) makes me positively gleeful, 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' (the expensive flop I saw most recently) just bores me.
& on another note, I love 'House'! Those old scary movies with the cheesy box art are great.
