My friends and I decided to stop by Singapore for a couple of days on our way to Australia, and it's awesome here. I won't be able to update the site the usual way while I'm downunder, but I'm gonna set up one of those blog things to document weird stuff I find and post pictures for grandma.

[rant]Watch out, they are fucking communists.
Acutally I know dick about the resting communist countries, but Singapore is dangerously close to *shiver*China*choke*. It must be hard to communicate with those yellowies if they speak such a strange language. Please, take your friend viking hordes and kill the hell out of everyone.[/rant]

And while the culture basically is Chinese, Singapore is a center for world trade, so just about everyone speaks English pretty well. Well, not the old people in Chinatown, but... I've actually started up a blog documenting my trip. It's there so I can share whatever weird I can find with the readers of teh site, but also to let my folks back home see what I'm up to. There aren't very many weird asian things up yet, but I've got a batch of pictures ready to include in a future update. If anyone's interested, the blog is at www.livejournal.com/users/pjalneEDIT: Oh, and Pancho, I have found some pretty interesting stuff regarding Mexican wrestlers, I'm probably gonna do a piece on them when I get back to Norway. I mean, when the movies include Mexicans in costumes and have names like Blue Devil Versus the Brains From Hell, how can one resist?

Dude, are you still on vacation? I totally expected you to be back by the time I got back (I disappeared to NYC for a week), but alas! You're still living the high life overseas. I just skimmed over the pictures in your bilingual (very cool) blog -- excellent stuff. And a Chinatown! I hope you picked up some fun bootleg toys for review purposes. (I was able to snag some TMNT bootlegs in NYC's Chinatown... amazing stuff, really.) Okay, catch you later, Per!
(Oh, and if you'd like to see those Robo Vampire anigifs, I do still have them... where should I send 'em? They're pretty big, btw.)

Hi, long time, nosey. Sure, I'd love to see the anigifs. Just send them to webmaster@encyclopedia-obscura.com And yeah, after I got back from Italy, I pretty much just did my exams before going home to spend the summer with my parents, and then I headed off towards Singapore and Aussie. So I'll be here for a few months, and while I'm on the other side of the world, I won't be able to update the site. I have some pictures of some rad Singaporean foods I'm sure you'll like, though. They're on my friends' cameras (I didn't buy a cam myself until the next to last day we were there), so I'll have to borrow their memory sticks before I can upload anything. It's funny you should mention bootleg action figures, because I found some in Chinatown and was dumb enough not to buy them. They were about three dollars for a five-pack, and wouldn't really take up much place if I threw away the card and the bubble, so there really wasn't any reason not to take them with me. There was even a Batman with a Zorro hat in there. So, how was New York? I trust the bootleg TMNTs will be featured on SC in the near future?

I'm a Singaporean. Actually we're not really communists, we're more of the facist type. Oh, and the gobblygook language we speak, it's related to Japanese, so that makes it cool I guess. One last thing. We're not yellow. Our colour is more brown than yellow. Blends in better with soil. Thus, if we wanted, we could lie on the ground and you'll never find us. I apologize for the bad grammer, since it's currently 2.45am where I'm at (Singapore, obviously), and my brain isn't working too well.

Hey, dude. Your grammar seems really good as far as I can tell.
All chewing gum fascism aside, I loved Singapore. The weather was humid but great, the people I met were polite (or impolite in a friendly way), and I got some pretty rad DVDs and VCDs there. Like the Japanese X-Rider/Raida Eksuu and Ju-On and the Singaporean Home Run. And one called Army Daze, which was really sprawling and not really all that good or funny. When I finally get around to watch Home Run, hopefully that will give me a better impression of Singaporean cinema.
And Chinatown was great. The salespeople were insanely pushy, though. This hobo-like old guy grabbed hold of my arm and wouldn't let go, and wanted to sell me something. The conversation went something like this:
- Want to buy something?
- Uh, don't think so. What are you selling, anyway?
- Don't ask what I sell, ask what I can SELL YOU TODAY!
- So, what, you sell clothes, souverniers, what?
- I sell whatever you want TO BUY TODAY!
- I don't know, my luggage is kinda full anyway.
- THEN I SELL YOU LUGGAGE!
I still have no idea if he even had a stall.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. If you live in Singapore you'll know how bad it is. You're a foreigner, and by "foreigner" I mean white. Singaporeans automatically bow down and worship whites. Perhaps it's because of a few decades of colonial rule. We still think whites are cool(note the word "think". No offense if you are really cool.) That's why people are friendly towards you. If I were to ask someone for directions or something, I'll probably get a blank stare. Also, since Singapore is small, you get a lot of people trying to take advantage of others here(meaning that there's a lot of multi level marketing companies here). Also, I remember the time when someone spouted nonsense about our Prime Minister. He was sued and currently is undergoing trial. In fact, if you were to spout nonsense(by spouting nonsense I mean satire, humour and public grousing)about the political party here, you've better be ready for a whole lot of trouble. Right now I'm going to go hide somewhere and hope no one finds me. Wish me good luck. I'll see you around...say...2020.

Yeah, we must have seen the sunny side when we were there. It was a great experience, but I'd rather live here than there.
Make sure you bring a can opener when you go into hiding. Opening a can of peaches with a branch is harder than it looks.

No, I think I'll be hiding in Sentosa. Great place. That's where they put the politicial dissidents after they grow old anyway, so it'll be ok. Except that Sentosa's a bit expensive. Think I'll live on the coconuts there, so I won't be taking any can openers with me.

Just don't eat too many, or you'll get the runs and have to sit on the pot all day.
